When Iggy arrived at TLC, he was carrying the weight of more than just addiction. Like many who come through our doors, he had spent years battling the highs and lows that come with substance use, emotional pain and the patterns that kept him stuck. But behind it all was a man ready to change.
Over the course of just four weeks, we watched Iggy soften, reflect and ultimately begin to rebuild himself from the inside out. His transformation, though deeply personal, is one we see time and time again in our programme – the moment a person starts to believe in themselves again.
“I’ve never felt this safe, this seen or this hopeful in a long time.”
Iggy’s recovery wasn’t easy, but it was honest. From the very beginning, he engaged fully with our non 12-step approach, which allowed him to explore his story without shame or judgement.
Through a combination of 1:1 psychotherapy, group therapy, yoga therapy and creative expression sessions, Iggy began to process difficult memories and understand the deeper drivers behind his addiction. There were moments of discomfort – of vulnerability – but he never shied away. And in doing so, he uncovered a resilience he forgot he had.
He also formed deep bonds with the staff and other residents – something he reflects on in both videos with clarity and warmth.
Healing the Body and the Mind
Throughout his time at TLC, Iggy embraced our full programme. He joined daily wellbeing walks, massage therapy, nutritional support and participated actively in evening reflections. Our team of counsellors and therapists often commented on his openness, humour and gentle presence – all qualities that deepened as he began to heal.
One of the most meaningful parts of Iggy’s stay was his connection to mindfulness and yoga therapy, something he said gave him a sense of peace that he hadn’t experienced in years.
He leaves us with a strong plan for continued support and the knowledge that recovery is a daily, lifelong process – one he is now empowered to walk with clarity and intention.
